Antelope and Mule Deer 2007

Well after the moose it was time to go to Leader Saskatchewan for our trophy Mule deer and a new experience of hunting Antelope. Man Oh Man can they run for such a small animal. The first heard we came to had all does or the bucks lost there horns already so off to the next batch. We seen over 200 Antelope and only seen does so thats what we shot. When people say you lead them seven fence posts they arn't kidding. Man can they run. After a lot of shells Shea and I got our Antelope.
Our Mule deer was a little different. They were every where. It was like hunting rabbits. Shea shot his after a 2 km stalk and was done. Myself on the other hand was very picky and was wanting a 30+ incher wide or drop tines. This almost cost me not getting one but on the second day after passing a deer the night before that grew in size after we walked away from it. The next morning I shot my deer. He was'nt wide and never had a drop tine but he scored 183 2/8s. A nice deer. Maby next year I 'll get the wide one. We have'nt scored Shea's yet but it should be close to mine.

Goose Hunting 2007

Well no Guiding this year and that left me a lot of free time to hunt for myself. I got a lot of goose hunting done and with it came 2 bands. One from a Ross and One from a Greater Canada Goose. Here are a few pics of the 07 seasson. Gotta love It.

2007 Moose hunt

Top: moose from 2007
Bottom: 2006
Another year of moose hunting and after calling last years bull within 7 yards of me, it should be easy right? NOT THE CASE.
Well Shea and I took of to Big Sandy Lake lodge in Sept. and hunted hard for 4 days. We did everything from calling , walking, quading and even renting a boat and hunting the lake to no avail.
So away we go again in October. All we see again are tracks and more tracks. We even had moose tracks on our tracks. Very frustrating. However on our last day we finally got some luck and come across a Bull with a cow and two calves. So I shot the bull and he swam out into a lake about 40 yards and died. Right on we got our moose, but wait one of the calves has antlers to so Shea shoots it and it drops on the shore line. Nice and Dry for Shea.
Now for the fun part. I strip down and after some encouraging words from Shea dive in and swim out to my moose that is floating in 15 feet of water. Man you don't know COLD WATER until you go swiming in the middle of October up north.
But it was well worth it. Hopefully 2008 will bring another Moose as we are Hooked on hunting them.
